This softener is filled with monodisperse, sodium-based cation exchange resin. The water passing through the resin carries away the calcium and magnesium in exchange for an equivalent quantity of sodium ions. When the resin is saturated with calcium and magnesium, it will be reactivated by regeneration with a saturated solution of regeneration salt. Due to the regular particle size of the monodisperse cation exchange resin the consumption of water and salt is very low.
