How do I replace my oil boiler with a gas condensing boiler?
Replacement of an oil boiler with a condensing gas boiler in Brussels
The advanced mastery of the technique of replacing a boiler would naturally be complex if the word "BOILER" is unknown to us.
What is a boiler?
The boiler is a central heating system using different fuels and different technologies. According to the basic definition, the boiler heats the water enough for it to pass into the state of vapor and thus produce thermal energy. The price of this device varies according to its features, performance and build quality. Thus, the budget of a boiler remains highly influenced, from 800 € to more than 10,000 €. Innovative high-efficiency boilers benefit from a reduced VAT rate and numerous aids from the State, regional and local authorities. There are different types of boilers. The standard boiler with a yield of around 92%, the standard boiler remains the most common and the least expensive. To this is added the low temperature boiler, the forced flow or forced flow boiler, the condensing boiler, the mixed boiler , the cogeneration boiler .
The urgent need to protect the environment and the desire to save is pushing for an evolution towards new boilers such as gas condensing. So you can replace an oil boiler with a condensing gas boiler. How to proceed?
Here are 3-step tips for switching from an oil-fired installation to a natural gas system. A natural gas system is indeed more economical and cleaner for the environment.
1. We connect to the network
Is natural gas available on your street? To find out, just ask the distribution network manager of your municipality.
If it is not possible to connect your home to natural gas, this will not signify the end of your hopes of heating yourself with gas: you will be able to store propane… in a tank. But in this case, it's not natural gas.
When you ask for an offer, remember to mention all your needs. The installer can then provide for the connection to the network in his offer, and make contact with the network manager.
2. Get rid of your oil tank
The permanent decommissioning of an oil tank is a legal measure. It should be done by a licensed professional . The installer of your new boiler will take care of this or call on another company. But in any case, he will take care of getting rid of your tank. It will proceed in 3 phases:
- emptying, cleaning, degassing;
- waste disposal ;
- evacuation of the tank.
If the tank cannot be evacuated, it will have to be "inerted": plug it, for example with sand. For a tank in the open air (evacuable), the whole procedure costs a little more than 1000€. For a buried tank (which we may not be able to evacuate), this can rise to 2000€. In both cases, some municipalities grant a bonus. Ask your municipal administration or our online tool to check the subsidies you can benefit from!
Last piece of advice : keep the documents that attest to the decommissioning of your tank.
3. We choose our new boiler
There are great disparities between the different types of boilers. The main distinction concerns performance. The higher the efficiency , the less energy it will take to produce a quantity of heat. And therefore the lower your energy bill will be.
- Why replace your oil boiler?
➢ Storage issues
The reasons for wanting to change your oil boiler can be multiple. Among them, we can notably cite the wish to switch to another energy in order to no longer need to store at home and to have to constantly monitor the level of the tank.
➢ The desire to achieve energy savings
In terms of energy savings, boilers, depending on the model, can have yields of different levels.
➢ The age of the equipment, the age of your boiler
But this replacement may also follow the obsolescence of the boiler combined with the announcement of the elimination, in the coming years, of fuel oil boilers.
➢ Political announcements ban oil and fuel oil heating
For example, the current government in France, in its environmental policy, has announced that it has chosen to eliminate individual heating by fuel oil within ten years.
